Nepal Earthquake: A Disaster Tearing Apart Souls
02:02
Unaware of the fact that death is knocking on their
door, a peace was there, a peace that happens before thunder arrives. An earthquake occurred at 11:56 NST on 25th
April with a magnitude of 7.8 or 8.1 Ms. Its epicenter was the village of
Barpok in Gorkha district and its hypo-center was at a depth of approximately 15
kilometers. An earthquake came and took away many lives with it. Soon a
beautiful town turned into heap. Many innocents lost their lives. It turned
into a hilarious scene that was shaking people’s heart along with the Earth.
There were cries and screaming voices all around.
People were running anisotropic ally. There was chaos all around. Terrible screams
were haunting the hearts of people who had survived after the disaster. People
lost their families and their home. A very deep pain was there in the heart of
Nepal.
But this was not done yet. Something worse was
waiting for Nepal. Near about 6.7 magnitude earthquake was again felt by Nepal
on 26th April. The second major earthquake occurred on 12 May 2015
at 12:35 pm NST with 7.4 magnitude. This time the epicenter was near the
Chinese border between the capital of Kathmandu and Mt. Everest. It struck at
the depth of 18.5 kilometers. Nearly, 150 aftershocks had been witnessed by
Nepal till May 12.
Some of the countries including India gave their
helping hand to Nepal. People across the world sent their blessings to Nepal.
But nature was in deep anger this time as she gave shocks and shocks to both
“the earth and mankind”. Passenger planes from India to Nepal were not allowed
to land in Kathmandu in the wake of more
tremor and only air force planes carrying emergency aid were given preference.
India sent different teams for quake relief. The
ministry of health and family welfare had dispatched 15 tonnes of medicines to
Nepal with some orthopedic surgeons, anesthetists, nurses and OT technicians.
US provided the initial aid of $ 1 million to Nepal. Other countries like China
and Pakistan also sent aid to Nepal.
Although, destruction was more than the resources
Nepal had gained. Some people had lost their children, some had lost their
parents and some had lost their whole families. People were in deep grief. A
mother on her knees was watching the sky and was asking to god to return her
baby. By crying deep and deep, she moaned and asked the mighty lord to stop
this all. Helpless and homeless people with a fading desire of survival were
left traumatized. The UN had estimated that quake had affected 8.1 million
people i. e more than a fourth of Nepal’s population of 27.8 million.
In the southeast of Kathmandu in Bhaktapur, a 4
months old baby was rescued after spending at least 22 hours in a collapsed
building by Nepalese military team who heard the child was crying.
After spending 80 hours in the wreckage of a
building, a person named Rishi khanal was pulled out alive by a French search
and rescue team. There were many people who got their second life by the
humanity which helped them in the hours of crises but many of them also lost
their lives due to lack of resources.
The heart wrecking
disaster left many people but took away their desires. The disaster had not
only broken people physically but also psychologically. The terrible scene they
had witnessed makes them haunt. May time will heal what medicines can’t. May
Nepal will stand up with courage soon. We hope that these dreadful wounds might
heal with time…..!!!
