World’s five fantastic scientists

09:09

Although there are many scientists who have contributed a lot to science, I am discussing about five of them who were the most influential scientists of human history!

1) Issac Newton (1643-1727): He has remained the most influential yet controversial scientist of all the times. He was the man who had laid the foundation of modern day’s physics and mathematics. He had discovered gravity and invented Calculus. What we learn today in these subjects are purely the outcomes of Newton’s work. He is the inventor of Newtonion mechanics. His contributions for mathematics and physics are really remarkable!

2) Albert Einstein (1879-1955): Albert Einstein is rather great man of values other than a curious scientist. He was not a very good student but he became a great scientist by his incredible work. He had received ‘Nobel Prize in Physics’ in 1921 especially for the discovery of photoelectric effect. His special theory of relativity was his major contribution to modern physics. His contributions in physics are broad. He had explained Brownian movement and wave theory of particles. His absolute laws for mass and energy has changed the whole concept of the matter.

3) Nikola Tesla (1856-1943): He was one of the most intelligent scientists ever known. You would be amazed to know that he was college dropout. He was addicted to gambling and thus lost all his money including his fees to gambling. Later he didn’t get time to study and thus dropped out in the last semester. He has started doing his remarkable work with Edison. Once Tesla told Edison that he could redesign Edison’s inefficient motors and generators to which Edison challenged him if he could do it, Edison would pay him fifty thousand dollars. Tesla completed the task but Edison was unable to pay such a sum of money together. Tesla left and after some years developed “Induction motor” which was truly the most important inventions of him.

4) Galileo Galilei (1564-1642): He is considered as the “father of modern observational astronomy”, the “father of science”, and “The father of Modern Science”. He has contributed to observational astronomy by telescopic confirmation of Venus. He discovered the four largest satellites of Jupiter. It was Galileo who supported Copernicanism and gave Heliocentralisation theory to support the idea that earth revolves around sun but was put on house arrest by the church and he spent his last years on house arrest.

5) Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519): He was an Italian Polymath. He had conceptualized a helicopter, a calculator and outlined the rudimentary theory of plate tectonics. During his lifetime, only very few designs were constructed as construction of others were not feasible.

These scientists have given us the base on which present technology is being constructed. These are actually the people behind the major concepts of science, mathematics and astronomy!

Some interesting facts about our solar system

There are a lot of mystical and flawless things about solar system you might don’t know. I am sharing some of the facts about our solar system!

It is interesting to know that earth changes its polarity which means that North Pole converts into South Pole and vice-versa. This change of polarity can occur after a period of 5000 years to 5 million years.

You have often heard about the fact that the height of astronauts grow in space. This is due to the fact that the cartilage disc in spinal cord expands like a spring causing the whole body to increase its total length and thereby astronauts become temporarily taller!

Do you know that every year, North America and Europe moves 4 cm away from each other? It is due to the movement of continent bearing plates.

Earth has the highest average density as compared to other planets of solar system while Saturn has the lowest. It means earth is the densest of all the planets of our solar system.

We only see one side of the moon. We never see the other half from the earth. It is because of the fact that earth’s rotation and moon’s rotation happens exactly at same time. The other side of moon ever seen is from spacecraft!

Jupiter acts as a life saver to Earth. It sucks all the debris from the solar system before it reaches forward. The reason for this this phenomenon is the gravitational pull of the Jupiter which allows it to create an attractive force to clean up the solar system!

Which is the hottest planet? Your answer will be mercury. Right! But it’s not actually true. Venus is the hottest of all the planets. Mercury is however closest to sun but possess no atmosphere to hold the heat taken from the sun. On the other hand, Venus has very thick atmosphere to trap heat and thus is the hottest!

Your one day visit to Mercury will be fifty eight days on planet earth! In actually, the same phenomenon can be experienced by visiting Antarctica where day and night are of six months!

If it is calculated physically on mass then our solar system is made up of 99% of the sun’s mass and rest 1% accounts for the mass of planets and other asteroids!

Isn’t it peculiar to know more about our solar system? There are a lot of facts which will widen your eyes. Our solar system is unique in its existence and so as we!

Carbon footprints: Your impact on planet

Like we leave footprints on sand, carbon footprints are our marks on this Earth. Our every action can be summed up in terms of carbon footprints. From switching on a light to travelling in a bus, you are leaving behind something. Your every deed is leaving an impact on this planet, knowingly or unknowingly!

How?

Question arises how it is leaving an impact. Answer to this question is very simple. Everything we do is supported by energy. When we switch on light, we get electricity. For production of electricity, it needs fossil fuels for burning. On burning of fossil fuels, carbon and other greenhouse gases are generated. Thus from choosing a food item to wearing a particular dress contributes for emission of greenhouse gases. The major constituent of greenhouse gases is carbon dioxide and hence the name “Carbon Footprints”. These gases lead to increased greenhouse effect and thus affecting the environment.

Increased Green House Effect:

Greenhouse effect as all know is the effect caused by greenhouses which allows retaining heat for proper growth of plants. Same is the case with greenhouse gases, they acts as a wall of glass for our earth to retain heat and making earth warm but increasing level of these gases are retaining more heat of the sun and thus raising the earth’s temperature.

Consequences:

This temperature rise is creating problems to earth’s environment. Some Flora and fauna could not sustain huge temperature and hence are on the verge of extinction while some classes have already been extinct. Glaciers are melting before time affecting the migration cycle of creatures. This is causing death of many creatures including the polar bear to big whales. Our small acts which we perform daily are causing big, very big changes!

What should we do?

It’s our duty to save our mother earth. We should take charge not to waste things. Our habits are contributing some impacts on our planets. We have to take care of our deeds. If someone has a habit of taking walk in a garden for sometimes and comparing same time to use a computer or television can reduce 60-90 kg of Carbon dioxide emission annually.

You can easily calculate your carbon footprints online. You’ll yourself know the amount of greenhouse gases you are adding into the environment. Many websites offers to calculate your carbon footprints for free. You need to answer some questions regarding your daily habits. This data is then processed and your carbon footprints are calculated.

Carbon footprints are your marks on nature which you are giving to destroy it. Even when you mend a leaky tap, you contribute in saving our planet earth. From fasting to donating food in spite of throwing it away can cause a huge difference to our Planet. In this way, our indirect activities are directly affecting the planet.
